October 1961

A College Township-Gambier Volunteer Fire Department has been formed and plans to incorporate.  While the township and village have a fire contract with Mt. Vernon, the new volunteer department is intended to help contain a fire until Mount Vernon firemen can arrive, said Charles Imel, vice-president of the volunteer department.
1961

GAMBIER FIREMEN Acquire Pumper - Almost Free -   Gambier - College Township Fire Department has aquired a 1100 gallon pumper truck.  Chief Charles Imel said a fire truck company has sold a new truck to the Palmyra Fire Department between Akron and Canton and one of its men was driving the old Palmyra truck to Gambier for inspection.  Near Killbuck on U.S. 62 the truck "froze up".  The company notified Gambier officials that they could just have the truck.  Gambier picked
up the vehicle and made arrangements to have a new engine placed in the vehicle.
1962

College Township's Volunteer Fire Department has completed the first step in the formation of a full-fledged fire department.  It has 15 men who have completed 12 weeks (26 hours) of instruction.  Those who participated were: Charles Imel, Hobart Brown, Carroll Dial, Roger Hite, Leo Wolfe, Chester Antill, Robert Gorsuch, Kenneth Fawcett, Thomas Strome, James Cass, Ray Thompson, John Ridenbaugh, Jack Harris, Richard Simpson and Richard Cumberland.
1962

College Townships new fire house is nearing completion.  Volunteer firemen are finishing the interior of the $15,000 building.  It will be located on Scott Lane next to the Village Hall.
1963

R.W. Sands, Centerburg, was elected president of the newly formed Knox County Firefighters Association when 50 firemen representing the five fire departments in the county met at Centerburg Monday night.  Other officers elected were: Vice President Chief Dale Hammond of Danville, Secretary Chief Charles Imel of College Township and Treasurer Capt. W.W. Neighbarger of Mount Vernon.
1964

NOTICE !     Area change in FIRE PROTECTION.  Gambier College Twp. FD is taking over 3 new roads in Monroe Township for fire protection.  Twp Roads 254 and 253 along with CR 8.
December 1967

A permanent bleacher containing 900 persons collapsed just prior to the start of a basketball game between Kenyon College and the College of Wooster.  There were 15 injured and transported to Mount Vernon Hospital.
