FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION
Never leave cooking foods
unattended - Oil or fat can ignite. If
you are faced with a grease fire, Take and carefully slide a lid over the pan
and turn off the heat source. Always turn pot handles to the back of the stove
when cooking to avoid pots being pulled or knocked off. Never leave hot liquids
or food unattended or at the edge of a table or counter where they may be pulled
down by a child. Avoid wearing loose fitting sleeves when cooking that may
contact stove burners and ignite.
When running a bath
always run the cold water into the tub first, then add hot water to the desired
temperature. Before placing a child in the bath tub, test the temperature of the
water by moving your hand through the water for several seconds. If the water
feels hot add cold water until the temperature feels comfortable.
Stop Drop and Roll Stop
Drop and Roll!
If your cloths catch on fire- Stop immediately,
Drop to the floor, cover your face with your hands and Roll over and over to
extinguish the flames.
Cool a Burn
If someone is burned, cool the burned area
immediately with cool water. Do not use ice or very cold water. If blisters
develop seek medical help immediately.
Install smoke detectors
Check smoke detectors once a month and change the batteries at least once a
year. Smoke detectors sense abnormal amounts of smoke or invisible combustion
gases in the air. They can detect both smoldering and burning fires. At least
one smoke detector should be installed on every level of a structure. Purchase
smoke detectors labeled by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Factory Mutual
(FM).
911
Be aware that if a fire threatens your home, you should not place the call to
emergency services from inside the home. It is better to get out and place the
call to fire authorities from a safe location outside the home.
Make sure you have a safe
fire escape method for all situations
You may have installed a very expensive home security system. But if you cannot
escape the burning structure you have a false level of confidence.
Use Electricity Safely
If an appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it immediately and have
it repaired. Replace frayed or cracked electrical cords and don't overload
extension cords. They should not be run under rugs. Never tamper with the fuse
box or use the improper size fuse.
